With All Saints Day just a few days away, Belgian floral artist Annick Mertens created some stunning arrangements with Porta Nova Red Naomi roses; that expressively captured the melancholic and celebratory emotions we go through when saying goodbye to departed loved ones. These arrangements were simply magical.

“What makes me happy is when I succeed in bringing out the emotions from my client and translating them into the flowers they choose to be on the grave for November 1st,” she says.

And adds that when It’s hard to find the right words, flowers say a lot.

Annick believes that as a florist, you would always wish for a customer to be able to express their feelings in the flower arrangement you make. For her, these flowers have a special meaning… The transcience of life.

“Funeral flowers and First of November flower pieces are an important segment for the florist. On the 1st of November, we remember the people we love and visit them at the cemetery with flowers. One family might choose to have an intimate and small arrangement, that gives a feeling of cozy sweetness, while another might want it to reflect the scale of their sadness. So it can never be big enough.” says Annick.

Making of the Designs
Annick created the arrangements using our beautiful Porta Nova rose on the new base of Oasis, the bio line table flex which she says is also an ideal base to place on a coffin. She also used the bio half quadro. For the heart, she used red eucalyptus bark and on the little containers, she packed with wool of Lehner Wolle.

“In many countries, the colour red is a symbol of love. Red Naomi is the perfect rose to say love never ends. For me, it’s a rose you can use mono, and that gives power to your flower piece.”

She notes that the Porta Nova Red Naomi roses are of very good quality with a big head and a long shelf life. That is the reason she has been working with our roses for many years now and has never been disappointed.

All Saints Day in Belgium
Also known as “La Toussaint” in Belgium, this day holds a lot of significance as people commemorate and honour their departed loved ones by visiting cemeteries, tending to graves, and lighting candles as a symbol of remembrance. It is a time for families to come together, reflect on the lives of those who have passed away, and offer prayers and respect to their memory. All Saints Day serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring connection between the living and the departed, fostering a sense of unity and tradition.
