Aràlia Flors first opened its doors on February 12th, 1982, and today operates two flower shops in Vic, a beautiful city about 60 km north of Barcelona, home to around 50,000 inhabitants. This family-run business has been owned by Núria and her husband Ramon since 1994. Their deep passion for floristry is evident in every piece that leaves their floral workshop, where creativity and craftsmanship come together with genuine care. Núria is also co-owner of Smilax Taller de Florística, a floral art school where she teaches professional florists.

“At Aràlia Flors, customers are treated with the same honesty, warmth, and attention to detail that we value ourselves. Our team holds high standards for their work while remaining approachable and deeply connected to their community. Our enthusiasm remains as strong as it was on the very first day, supported by Rosa and Pilar, two integral members of the Aràlia Flors story.”

We had a chat with Aràlia Flors about St Jordi’s Day and their remarkable ‘House of Dragons’ theme that featured Porta Nova Red Naomi roses.

We love creativity! How important is storytelling and theme-based design for Aràlia Flors when planning for big floral moments? Tell us how you incorporated the House of the Dragon theme with St Jordi Day.

It’s without doubt the most important day of the year for us, a day that connects people through beauty and tradition.

For us, every St Jordi must have a story behind it. We love to offer our clients a unique rose each year, with its own personality and concept. Porta Nova is always our choice because its Red Naomi roses perfectly match our style, elegant, strong, and full of soul.

We never reveal the design of the main rose until the very day, we like to create mystery and excitement. As a family, we’re a bit “geeky”: we love movies and TV series, so in 2025, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon felt like the perfect inspiration.

Our promotional video was filmed in a single take. We had discussed the idea just before recording, but we didn’t expect it to work out perfectly on the first try. That spontaneity made it authentic, and truly “us”.

St Jordi is a huge deal in the floristry calendar, especially in Catalonia (Catalunya). Describe this day for us.

To give an idea to florists outside Catalonia, during St Jordi’s Day, around seven million roses are sold across the region in just one day, almost one for every inhabitant. It’s an intense, emotional and beautiful celebration, a mix of culture, love and flowers everywhere. We start preparing months in advance, and although it’s an amazing day, it can also be a little “deadly” because of the stress and long hours.

Describe the reaction from your customers

The reaction was amazing! Our clients and followers couldn’t stop laughing when they saw the video, and we received so many lovely messages.

One customer said, “I wouldn’t have expected anything less from you!”, and that really made our day. People love that we bring creativity and humour to such a traditional event. And yes… we’re already thinking about what we’ll do in 2026!

Your bouquets were bold and magical! How did Porta Nova Red Naomi roses help you bring that royal fantasy theme to life?

The Porta Nova Red Naomi has a natural majesty and strength that made it the perfect rose for our House of the Dragon concept. Its deep red tone, velvety texture and exceptional durability gave our design the power, passion and elegance we wanted, it truly became the rose of the dragons. Without a doubt, it was the heart and soul of our St Jordi collection.

About St Jordi’s Day

In Barcelona and the larger Catalonia region, 23rd April is a special day. It is Saint Jordi’s Day; when Love and Romance takes residence not only in people’s hearts but all over town; as everyone goes an extra mile to find the best way to express affection to their loved ones. Also known as the Feast of St George, Feliç Diada de Sant Jordi, Sant Jordi´s or “La Diada de Sant Jordi”, this day is steeped in history as the most romantic day of the year in these regions.

Sant Jordi is the Catalan name of Saint George, who is the patron saint of Catalonia. The day is however not an exclusively Barcelona affair, as it is also celebrated by Christians in other towns and cities around the world where St George is the patron saint.

The rest of the world would look at Barcelona with envy as they are regarded lucky to have two Valentine Days in one year. St Jordi’s is also called “El Día de los Amantes,” which means Lovers Day and sometimes called “El día de la Rosa,” which means the Rose Day. Although not an official public holiday, the day is marked with much pomp and flair as people of all ages exchange red roses and books.

The tradition it’s always been that the man gives a rose to the woman, and she gives a book to the man. That’s the tradition, cause it involves the beauty of flowers, the symbol of love, and also the culture of books and reading sotries.

What’s changed over the last couple of years is that the roles are not exclusive anymore; there are women who also buy roses for their men and men who give books to women too.

Happy St Jordi’s Day from Porta Nova
