Over the years, we have always been amazed by the beautiful floral arrangements by Claudia Tararache. On different occasions, her creations have artfully brought to life the beauty of our Porta Nova Red Naomi roses. During a recent Floral Fundamentals photoshoot, Claudia created a Christmas table arrangement that was both creative and elegant. She happily calls it Holiday Elegance.
In this article, Claudia gives us a breakdown of her process during the creation of ‘Holiday Elegance’ as well as shares some useful tips for holiday arrangements.

How can you describe Christmas and end-of-year festivities in Romania?
Christmas in Romania is a delightful blend of traditions and family gatherings, often starting as early as November. Many people begin decorating their homes and preparing for the celebrations at the beginning of the month. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by carolling, traditional foods, and beautifully adorned Christmas trees.
The New Year is celebrated with joyful gatherings, fireworks, and a sense of renewal, bringing families and friends together to celebrate and reflect on the past year.
If you had to give this arrangement a unique name, what would it be?
I would call this “Holiday Elegance”, because it beautifully captures the sophisticated and festive spirit of the season with its vibrant colours and graceful flowers.
Making of the Holiday Elegance
I chose a unique vessel crafted from branches, combined with biodegradable Oasis foam to create an eco-friendly base. This choice not only supports sustainability but also adds an organic touch to the design. I used approximately 35 to 37 stunning Porta Nova roses, known for their perfect red color, velvet petals and long-lasting blooms.
To elevate the arrangement further, I incorporated delicate Vanda orchids, which bring an exotic elegance. Additionally, Scabiosa and Talinum to add a whimsical charm. I also included Tillandsia, which adds a touch of unique movement and an air of tranquility. To enhance the festive feel, I included sprigs of pine for texture, along with decorative elements like pine cones and star-shaped pieces of bark. Each of these materials was carefully selected to evoke the essence of the holiday season and create a harmonious composition.
Technique
In terms of floristry techniques, I focused on balance and layering. I ensured that the roses remain the focal point while allowing other elements to complement them beautifully. The use of the biodegradable foam allowed me to create a secure foundation for the flowers, ensuring stability and longevity. This arrangement not only highlights the beauty of each bloom but also tells a story of Elegance, Sustainability, and Festive Celebration.

Choose Complementary Foliage:
Use greenery or other flowers that complement the roses without overwhelming them. This helps create a balanced look.
Vary Heights and Layers:
Arrange roses at different heights, layering them to create depth. This adds dimension and draws attention to each bloom.
Use a Suitable Vase:
Select a vase that allows the roses to be showcased. A clear vase can enhance their beauty, while a more decorative one can add elegance.
Keep Them Fresh:
Regularly change the water and trim the stems to maintain freshness. This prolongs the roses’ beauty and showcases their vibrant colors.
Lighting Matters:
Place the arrangement in a well-lit area where natural light enhances the roses’ colors and overall appeal.
