The closing weekend of November saw the dynamic and talented team from Stilfloristerna i Linköping create some decorations for this year’s annual graduation ceremony for 685 students of Linköping University. The ceremony was held at the local concert hall, with two sessions, first in the great hall and then in another hall in the same building for the gala dinner.
A Few challenges
Linköping University has lots of restrictions on the decorations. First: The stage in the concert hall had to be decorated in front of the stage, with lots of wide decorations not higher than 50 cm, made in black boxes, because the audience had to see all the students sitting on the stage, behind the decorations. Secondly: The decorations had to be done to make it easy for the staff to move them from the stage, after the ceremony, to the dinner hall, about 200 meters away from the concert hall. Third, the flowers had to be organically grown (or similar to that). Fourth: The budget was quite restricted, but the intended outcome was to be as stylish and with powerful decorations as possible. Fifth, the theme for this year’s ceremony was flowered in red colours combined with uncoloured dry material.
Dinner area
There were few possibilities to create decorations here due to the small/narrow tables. It had to be small vases with just one flower in each. In the entrance hall, the team had an opportunity to create decorations with their design without lots of restrictions.
During the event’s planning, Stilfloristerna i Linköping held many discussions with the university to choose specific flowers to make the ceremony tremendous and unique. During the years, there have never been any roses used, so they suggested high-quality red roses as the central flower for the decorations this year. The university was very happy about that suggestion and pleased with the result, which turned out great.
