Today, Van der Plas, part of the Floral Trade Group, and rose nursery Porta Nova expressed their intention to switch to the sustainable Red Naomi Futura roses. From now on, some of the roses will be purchased as Futura. For Van der Plas customers, this Red Naomi with the ultra-low carbon footprint of 56 grams of CO2 per stem is immediately available.
Sustainability in the DNA of Van der Plas
‘Van der Plas attaches great importance to sustainability,’ says managing director Hans van der Plas, ’it is embedded in our DNA. But at the same time, we believe that as an industry we need to do even more to reduce our impact on the environment. By choosing the sustainable Red Naomi Futura, we are now sending a clear signal.’
‘In addition, we as Floral Trade Group will investigate to what extent Futura can also work for our other divisions and markets,’ Hans continues. ‘Because it doesn’t stop at this step’.
Great match with like-minded people
‘We are proud of this intention,’ states Stefan van Vuuren, managing director of Porta Nova. ‘Van der Plas is one of the frontrunners when it comes to sustainability in Europe,’ Stefan points out. ‘So is Porta Nova. So the agreement is a great match with like-minded people who both aim to drastically reduce their carbon footprint.’
Futura is Porta Nova’s greenest scenario with 100% wind energy
This is Porta Nova’s greenest scenario, based on 2023 measurements and assuming 100% wind energy. The ultra-low footprint of 56 grams of CO2 per stem was measured by Greenhouse Sustainability and was shared with the industry for the first time at the last Trade Fair Aalsmeer.
