When she turned 30, Anna Popova decided to make a major switch in her life; she dived into the world of floristry. She wanted to own and run a flower-shop but she knew nothing about flowers at the time. Years later, after major persistence, hard work, and an undying passion for the art, Anna has become an award-winning floral artist with a reputable career. We had a chat with Anna after she created a beautiful design using Porta Nova Red Naomi roses. This exquisite design was featured in the latest venture by Floral Fundamentals where they had their Russian ambassadors doing photo shoots from home, supporting various growers.
How did you get into floristry?
I decided to change my life when I was 30 years old. At that point, I really wished to have a flower shop, but I knew nothing about flowers. So I took the decision to acquire education on floral art from a floristic school.
During my learning, I fell more in love with flowers and afterwards spent 15 years working. I started as a florist assistant and worked my way up to become creative director at a famous florist boutique. It was only after gaining that experience that I opened my own workshop. Now I feel fulfilled and happy to work with flowers at my pleasure.
What inspires your art?
My inspiration is the completed thing / project that I am working on at a particular time. I am often inspired by the material itself or the shape or the colour combinations; the inspiration is manifested in various different ways. For example, when I design with the fantastic Porta Nova Red Naomi rose.
Tell us about the design with Porta Nova roses you made for the Floral Fundamentals photoshoot
I created this composition with Porta Nova Red Naomi and a pomegranate peel and the ever wonderful vanda. I believe, all these materials are very top quality. I picture the composition in the middle of a round table for an occasion such as a red wine presentation. Red Naomi has a noble burgundy shade that I love it and find quite inspiring. Besides, these roses are excellent for the glue technique which I used in my creation.
